I like to teach.

My Teaching Tenets:

Talent is a dirty word

While I do believe that people have varying degrees of capability, I hear people use the word ‘talent’ as an excuse to not even try. Pursuing music is something that all of us can do, and I specialize in getting beginners to stop using their disbelief in themselves as an excuse to not even try.

Passion needs support

Even the most passionate person needs a sounding board. It’s easy to get stuck or be unsure of your progress. That’s where the teacher comes in. Piano especially can be a lonely endeavor, and having a teacher as a support system can keep the passion pointing in the right direction.

There are multiple paths to a goal

As someone who took the traditional path to learning piano, I understand how unhelpful that is to most people. It’s my job as a teacher to learn the language of each student to make concepts stick. No matter what makes most sense to you, I will help you reach your musical goals.

Fun followed by Reality

A teacher that doesn’t inspired or energize their students is a failure. Our lessons may not always be easy, but they must always be fun. Fun must be followed up with consistent practice from the student in between lessons. I am big on if you don’t practice, you don’t improve. I’ll help once a week, but you must put in the effort.
